java.io.IOException: No space left on device

July 30, 2014

I have found this below error using curl script to upload and install a big package from cq5 package manager. Well, I think the error can also come when the same activity is done from front-end author or publisher application.

<status code="500">java.io.IOException: No space left on device</status>

Explanation:

By default cq5 is configured to use the temporary path which is /tmp (in linux). It is this temporary path that is used for the package upload and when this temporary path doesn't have enough space - it throws the above error.

Rememdy:

1. Increase the size of the default temporary path.

2. Second way of solving this will come to picture when one can't increase the size of the default temporary path. In that case the default temporary path of cq5 can be changed in the start script of cq5

A word of caution: I don't take responsibility to the all that I post in this category of Adobe CQ5. The idea is only to help developers/administrators so that they can get a new/different perspective when encountered with an issue. Proper Adobe Documentation should be followed before implementing any important change.
