Harman/Kardon Go + Play Wireless Review

March 25, 2014

The speakers: Harman/Kardon Go + Play Wireless.

1. PERFORMANCE: HOW GOOD IS THE SOUND?

Awesome sound - The bass is superb. It is indeed very surprising that such tiny speakers can give this big bass effect. The whole unity is nearly 4.5 kg and so it really gives that feel - a no nonsense feel -  that the speakers mean business and capable of delivering that kick. The sound is powerful and fills up a medium to large-sized room very easily. The thumping of the beats is satisfying. It's capacity to handle low frequency bass is it's forte. These low frequencies don't escape it's net and it generates a satisfying growling bass. There is no distortion and there is no breaking or indication that it is too much for it to handle. Unlike the reviews/feedbacks here and there in the innternet, the mid-range and high frequency sound comes good as well.

2. BLUE TOOTH STREAMING

Blue tooth streaming is good indeed, though there is option to hook analog input through wire as well; It pairs up pretty easily with bluetooth from laptop and smartphones. And then you can listen to whatever your device will play. Now i have read in many places that sound through blue tooth is not good in quality. This might be the case because I am not aware technically how the signal goes in blue tooth, however my own personal experience of it's bluetooth technology in terms of performance has been pretty good. Very good sound output through bluetooth... so much, that I never felt need to use that irritating 3.5 mm jack to feed it with audio signal.

3. SIMPLISTIC FEATURES; GOOD DESIGN

I wasn't looking for li-ion battery compatibility; I was also not looking for good looks. I wasn't looking for beauty. I was only looking for  2 things- small size, good sound output - with or without battery. Harman/Kardon go play wireless speakers met my expectations. though I must admit - i like the unique design as well. Very symmetrical in design. The circular grills (2 on each side... 4 in total) look gorgeous and the whole thing looks like a piece of art. Simplistic design - with very less buttons and features - which is good. That which is needed is present here: some of them are - blue led signal to indicate device is paired up with blue tooth, white led signal to indicate power is on, rubber pad on top to keep your smartphone, an usb port at the back to charge your smartphone, simple power outlet and andapter, a 3.5 mm jack for wired power to be fed to. No remote control - because remote control is actually not required. The steel arc on top adds to it's beauty.

4. PRICE (LITTLE BIT ON THE HIGHER SIDE).

Before buying this I tried many other blue tooth speakers and I haven't found any coming close to this big sound output by Harman Kardon - downside: may be the battery portability isn't quite there for Li-ion cells. However - it is ultimately sound that matters and that's why I ended up with this unit at a premium price of 349 euro.

5. OVERALL RATING

Overall rating I would give 4.5 out of 5. Very satisfied after 4 months of use.
